My dad surprised me by supporting my BTC purchases.

I was talking to my dad today and I told him about the anxiety I was feeling watching my bitcoin investment (a modest amount) drop in value. I assumed he was going to tell me how stupid I was for buying in to something dumb and wasting my money, but he totally surprised me. "No good investment goes straight up all the time, just put it away, stop checking the value and check in on it in a few years. That stuff is future." It 100% caught me off guard that my very conservative 56 year old father would ever say something like that, and he is absolutely correct. This is an investment in the future of currency, not a day trading scheme to me. It was a good reminder. Edit: thank you, didn't realize I shouldn't disclose submitted by /u/MilosSword [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet https://ift.tt/3syTB0y

Any other Canadians buying bitcoin because there is no alternatives?

Canadian home prices have 3x since 2006. In markets with jobs for young people houses have more than 5x in that time. Anytime asset prices in Canada are going to fall the Bank of Canada is ready to step in and lower the short term interest rate and purchase long term bonds to suppress the long term yield. Despite low unemployment, low inflation and a booming economy they wouldn't even raise rates past 1.75% in 2018/2019. This has been great for people born before 1990 as they can use their assets to get loans to purchase more assets while the debt is inflated away by the Bank of Canada. But unfortunately for people born after they have not had the same opportunity to enter the asset market because wages haven't kept up with asset inflation let alone CPI. The Bank of Canada has cheated an entire generation. They expect us to now spend 45% of our income on housing to give boomers a golden parachute to retirement. Even as rates rise they will just implement yield curve control

Spouses and Bitcoin

I see a number of posts on here about people hiding bitcoin purchases from their spouse (married significant other). Or how people are upsetting their spouses with their bitcoin purchases. This is not a bitcoin issue. This a marriage issue. Take the time to work an intentional plan with your spouse. Set goals. Make a monthly budget. And decide what to do with your money together. Your financial life is much more than just bitcoin. And you and your spouse should be working as a team. If you disagree on allocation into bitcoin, talk about it. Set a plan where you achieve your financial goals together, and teach your spouse how bitcoin might be part of that. And be open minded enough to understand that your spouse has goals that are more than just stacking sats. submitted by /u/byb9069 [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet https://ift.tt/3pXwLOj

Never ever try to time the market

This has been my advice to everyone since I had my first bitcoin. The past week I tried to time the market once. IDIOT. Lost a lot. Im so I tried to recuperate what I lost by trying to act smart again. IDIOT AGAIN. I gave in to the fact that I have two balls and none of them is crystal. Don’t try to time the market. Hold and only sell if it’s very very important. Edit: seriously??? Six DM’s in 10 minutes??? Fuck off scammers. submitted by /u/boostank [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet https://ift.tt/3pY74NM

Bitcoin is a Frankenstein's monster, stitched together and built using over 40 years of research and failed attempts. It was Satoshi Nakamoto who was brilliant enough to realize that prior attempts all failed due to their lack of running on a decentralized network. The rest is history.

Why I don't care about the volatility

1) I did my homework...I know where this is going, so day to day or even month to month values mean next to nothing to me. I have literally gone months without even looking at the current value. In 2018 I had no clue it had dipped below 4k. 2) This was always a long play for me...buy and hold...for years...not weeks or months. This isn't a get rich quick game for me...that being said I will likely be able to retire a few years early because of it. 3) Bitcoin isn't going to zero at this stage. If you don't know why that's true, then you don't understand network effects and Metcalfe's law. If it's not going to zero its going to go a LOT higher. 4) It's not going to get banned in the US. It will get regulated. Thats a good thing. That will bring in even more institutional investors. Regulation means "legitimacy". 5) Central bank digital currencies are coming. They will have no negative impact on BTC...they will likely drive it even higher by

Right when the stock markets crashed i immediately went deep into bitcoin centered podcasts, you know the ones.

Im so damn happy i dove so hard when i did. Once i learned about the fixed supply and the halving and saw the stock to flow, thats when it finally clicked. From late march onwards its been a frantic episode. I took basically everything i was earning , all my savings (not much) all mine and my wives stimulus , and started living very very frugal. Yesterday we finally got to one btc, and after listening to probably 5-8hrs of podcasts a day, and driving my wife and everyone around me crazy, i am starting to feel like i can breathe again. Yellen is positive news for Bitcoin

Yellen continues to warn the public and investors about bitcoin. Unfortunately, that's not her role. That's the SEC's responsibility. Her role is to maintain the financial system of the US, including minting dollars and more fiat. Yellen is really telling us she's afraid bitcoin will disrupt the US dollar. This is positive news. I Spent 95 Bitcoins now I HODL 0.2

When I was 16 I found out about the Silkroad and bitcoin, I recently checked My old exchange and I had bought and used 95 BTC over a 2 year period. I was young and naive, I never knew about how currency’s could go up in value. I was way too hyped about getting weed through my letterbox. Now 10 years later here I am with no regrets really, I am now holding 0.2 hoping to ride this wave to the moon. Don’t forget to buy the dip! I'm quitting smoking and buying Bitcoin every week with what I would've spent on cigarettes.

I tried this a while ago, though I was throwing the money at options on robinhood, just to give myself something to do. Needless to say, it didn't work out. I blew a bunch of money and started smoking again just a few months later. Now, though, I feel like it's different. I'm honestly looking for a way to give myself a comfortable future. I'm a felon bartender with a useless degree, and the pittance of a contribution to my 401k my paychecks provide is just mathematically insignificant. What's clear to me is that I'm perfectly happy literally burning my money, so I shouldn't have any trouble spending the same amount on something with real appreciating value -- my future well-being . And Bitcoin, of course. Wish me luck. submitted by /u/hippoctopocalypse [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet https://ift.tt/3btfLub

How do I stop stroking my ego?

With the continuous increase in the BTC price ever since March, it's finally starting to set in that my buying is paying off big time. However, over the past couple weeks, I've started to frequently brag to myself in my own head about "Yeah, I'm the man" and "Damn, I didn't think I would retire THIS quick" and all this ego stuff. Over the past couple of days it's started to get really bad to the point that all I do during the day is pace around and think about how "set" I am and pretending that I'm better than everyone I know. I know this is very unhealthy but idk how to stop stoking my ego. I'm starting to put off my homework and stuff and I'm about to fail one of my classes too because instead of doing my homework and studying I'm just stroking my ego. I think I'm starting to become an asshole submitted by /u/feetlickerr69 [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet https://ift.tt/

To everyone who bought before this bull run

Congratulations you guys, you are the smart cookies. I bought after the bull run in 2017 at around £7k and pulled out after losing a few hundred. I checked the price and considered buying in when it was around £3/4K and rising but still sat it out. I finally bought in around December 20th thanks to encouragement from a friend and have since became a little obsessed (read The Basics of Bitcoin and Blockchain, The Bitcoin Standard, now starting Digital Gold). As someone who has a degree in tech but foolishly overlooked reading a little deeper into it I don’t think I’ll be able to get over my mistake anytime soon, especially with the highs we’re going to see this bull run... I may not make my millions this cycle, but maybe the next one. So again, if you bought in when it was a hell of a lot easier to acquire 1 coin, congratulations... and fuck you. submitted by /u/throwaway610003 [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet https://ift.tt/2ZtU1bX

I sold 10,000 World Of Warcraft gold for 5 bitcoin in 2012

I logged into wow for the first time in years on Monday. The first message was from my old guild master. He welcomed me back, gave me some help getting up to speed, ect. Then he says man if you saved those bitcoins I traded you for gold the would be worth thousands. I had forgotten that I had done this deal. I immediately started looking for my wallet. And I found it. Along with a Google doc with the login info. And there they were! So, I call my tax guy he says he can help me with that end. I was able to sell them fast. How Bitcoin saved my life.

I posted this on another subreddit, and its gotten a lot of response. Just thought I'd share it here so newcomers can see how I used DCA strategy to invest in Bitcoin monthly over the last 8 years. I'm a taxi driver in a European city and in December 2012 I picked up an American customer who wanted to go to the airport. The traffic was chaotic and what would usually be a 30 min journey, took approx 90 min. He was cool with it though, as he had plenty of time for his flight. We had a really good chat, he told me about BTC and how even if I didn't want to put money into it, it was important to know what it was. Needless to say, I was intrigued, and a bit confused. Over the next ten days or so, I read as much online as I could and decided there and then that I would quit my 15 cigarettes a day habit and put the money I would have spent otherwise into BTC. I made my first purchase of BTC on Jan 1st, 2013. Every month for the last 8 years, I have bought €250 of BTC. I

To those asking if you should buy now...

If you’re asking if you should buy now you’re not going to buy anyway. When price goes up you’ll say you should have bought the last time you asked and will ask again if you should buy now. You won’t. When it dips you’ll be too scared to buy because you’ll think it will dip more and you won’t buy. When it comes raging back to all time highs you will repeat this cycle. I remember reading an old r/relationships post about a woman who was furious at her husband for his "cult like" belief in bitcoin and mocked him for thinking he was "in a the ground floor".
