Barstool’s Dave Portnoy Is Preparing to Re-Enter the Bitcoin & Crypto Market

Dave Portnoy has been dabbling in the crypto and Bitcoin market for a few weeks now. After being reintroduced to the cryptocurrency market by Twitter, the Barstool Sports founder and celebrity day trader has been frequenting Crypto Twitter. It reached a point where he was introduced to the Winklevoss Twins, who co-founded the Gemini crypto exchange. Portnoy was then visited by the twins, who convinced him to buy Bitcoin and Chainlink (LINK). According to the Barstool founder, he purchased around $200,000 worth of Bitcoin and $50,000 worth of Chainlink. The cryptocurrency market then rallied around 5% in the day after he made this purchase, with LINK especially surging. After temporarily selling all his cryptocurrencies due to $25,000 worth of losses he incurred, Portnoy just announced that he may re-enter this nascent market. Dave Portnoy May Soon Re-Enter Bitcoin On August 30th, the Bitcoin newbie announced that he will soon re-enter the crypto market once he’s figured out the i

Roger Ver scamming Bitcoin newbies.

Sorry for the drama, but this is just outrageous. There are some things that should be off-limits, like deliberately lying to newbies. Have a look at this thread where a newbie asks for help buying Bitcoin, please don't bregade, comment or vote: https://np.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/ijksed/where_can_i_buy_bitcoin/ Archive: https://web.archive.org/save/https://np.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/ijksed/where_can_i_buy_bitcoin/ Apart from the normal "buy this altcoin instead for x and y reasons" the head moderator himself comes in and deliberately and knowingly gives a link to a site that sells an altcoin. To make it worse, it is his own site that he directly profits from. I have already reported it to the Reddit admins, people being this dishonest need to get ejected from cryptocurrencies IMO. They definitely should not be running subreddits. submitted by /u/bitmegalomaniac [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet https://ift.tt/3hJV0w2

Japanese crypto traders ditching XRP and MONA for Bitcoin

Image
Most Japanese crypto traders may be leaving altcoins behind entirely. The vast majority of Japanese crypto traders who started getting into the market in the last year may be investing solely in Bitcoin. According to data published on Aug. 19 from the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association (JVCEA), Bitcoin’s dominance relative to altcoins in the Japanese market reached more than 87% in April. No other token accounted for more than 6% of monthly volume traded. In the same month, the number of active accounts for spot crypto trading in Japan increased by 13,987, an all-time high at the time. “It seems like Japanese investors’ overall interest in altcoins has been shrinking over time relative to their interests in Bitcoin,” said Yuya Hasegawa, a market analyst at Japan-based crypto exchange bitbank. “Given the growth in the number of active accounts, the vast majority of the newer market participants in Japan, particularly since last summer, are likely to be intereste

Channel "active": false, but both peers online?

I've opened a channel to a peer and everything was fine for the first month or so. Channel was "active", but now all of a sudden the channel I opened with that peer is no longer active. I am still connected to this peer and they are still online. I can do a lncli getnodeinfo [pubkey] to get their information but the channel we have together has now been offline for a few weeks now. I've tried stopping LND and running it again. I've tried manually disconnecting from this peer (not closing the channel but disconnecting) and reconnecting. Nothing seems to work. The only option that I could think of next would be to force close the channel, incur the high transaction fee, and then open a new channel (again paying transaction fees), but even then, it might go offline again after all that. I'm running version LND 0.10.3-beta. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks! submitted by /u/Dockin [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet

What’s the easiest way for me to buy 5k in BTC?

I’m Canadian if that matters. I’m looking to invest around 5k in BTC and looking for the easiest, most effective way to do so. I’ve already purchased a Trezor so thats how I’ll be storing it all. What platform should I use? Should I go to Toronto and use an ATM? This is my first time doing any of this and I’ve heard of many websites/ways to purchase BTC but some have a limit and other restrictions. Looking for advice. Is it better to buy it in lump sums? Or all at once? Or does it really matter. I don’t really do much stocks but have been wanting to invest in BTC for awhile and am in a financial situation to be able to do so. Any help/advice would be great! Thank you! submitted by /u/jtww [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet https://ift.tt/2YQDqiu

Chainlink Bulls May Target $19.00 as Long as They Hold One Key Level

Image
Chainlink has been flashing some signs of strength throughout the past few days and weeks, with the cryptocurrency’s securing a relatively strong foothold above the $17.00 region following its latest surge. It has established the upper-$17.00 region as resistance, as a rally up to this area earlier today was followed by a strong rejection that sent the crypto plunging to lows of $16.50. Bulls are now ardently defending against a dip below the $17.00 region, as a confirmation of this level as support may provide it with enough momentum to rally higher in the coming few days. While speaking about the importance of this level, one analyst explained that as long as bulls guard against a dip below this level in the coming few hours, LINK could be well-positioned to rally as high as $19.00. That being said, the same analyst also notes that a dip below this level could lead it to slide down towards $15.00 in the near-term. Chainlink Struggles to Hold Above $17.00 Following Rejection at

Hackers Nab $16 Million In BTC Through Bitcoin Wallet Exploit

Why This Ethereum-Based DeFi Coin Is Up 30% on the Day

Image
Both Bitcoin and Ethereum have stalled, but it seems that altcoins are once again popping off. A swath of digital assets in the top 100 have gained dozens of percent in the past 24 hours, with some managing to even double. One such digital asset outperforming the market leaders is BZRX, the native token of the bZx Protocol. That cryptocurrency is up 30% in the past 24 hours, surmounting the value of $1.00 for the first time ever. BZRX, based on Ethereum, trades at $1.11 as of this article’s writing. Chart of BXZ Protocol's token over the past few days from TradingView.com Why Is the Ethereum-Based BZRX Up 30% in the Past 24 Hours? The coin is up a lot in the past 24 hours due to a listing on Binance. Binance has rapidly ramped up its listing process over recent weeks due to it being a bull market. By NewsBTC’s estimates, approximately two-dozen coins have been listed in the past month alone. Coins listed by notable exchanges like Binance and Coinbase often lead to rallies in

Ethereum Reaches a “Do or Die” Level as It Flips Key $400 Resistance

Image
Ethereum has firmly surmounted its $400 for the first time in a few weeks, with buyers now attempting flip this level into support. The crypto’s latest upswing has allowed it to outperform both Bitcoin and most other major altcoins significantly Analysts are widely noting that the cryptocurrency is reaching a decision point, with its near-term trend likely being determined by how it reacts to the resistance that sits at $405. That being said, a support-resistance flip of $380 could be enough to send it flying significantly higher, with one analyst noting that this could lead to an influx of buying pressure. Ethereum Shows Signs of Strength Following Break Above $400 At the time of writing, Ethereum is trading up roughly 2% at its current price of $403. This is around the upper boundary of the trading range that the crypto has been caught within in recent weeks. It is important to note that while the cryptocurrency has struggled to gain a foothold above $400 on multiple occasion

Talk me out of it

Throwaway for obvious reasons. My family is living in a small house in a crowded city. We want more space. I happen to be sitting on a bit of bitcoin. The exact amount doesn't matter. If you could sell 8% of your bitcoin to buy a couple hundred acres of land, would you do it? I really wanted to wait until around $30k to start selling chunks of bitcoin to finance an off grid home. But life has thrown a few curveballs and my family needs more space sooner than later. While I firmly believe that bitcoin will be at least 3x in a year from now, having land that we own outright would carry an enormous value. It would allow us to start planning the build for our future home. I should also add that the wife really wants me to get this property. If bitcoin moons, I will have missed out on hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars. But on the other hand, if that happens, the remainder of my stash will be worth a literal fortune. So, should I do it? Should I part with 8% to make the

Federal agencies turning to blockchain for its benefits

Image
Even the FDA uses blockchain Federal agencies have turned to blockchain for its transparency, efficiency, security and flexibility. According to  FedTech magazine , several federal agencies like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, and the Department of Treasury began using blockchain. Officials in the US Food and Drug Administration needed an effective way to help them track data on the H1N1 swine flu virus that had begun to spread again in 2017. Of course, officials at the US Food and Drug Administration did not find a better way than adopting blockchain technology. Henry Francis, associate director for data mining and informatics evaluation and research at the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, has already successfully developed a blockchain-based application that automatically enables them to obtain encrypted data in real-time, from many sources.  Francis explained that the real-time Application for Portable Interactive Devices (RAPID) program is one of

Ripple CEO: Fed Decision Regarding Interest Rates to Direct Focus to Crypto

The Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell made a shocking announcement during yesterday’s widely watched speech, in which he noted that the Fed will be allowing inflation to start running past 2%. This had far-reaching implications, influencing the price of assets like gold, crypto, and equities. Although high inflation is overtly positive for Bitcoin in the near-term, investors faded the move, with the crypto rallying as high as $11,600 before losing its momentum and plunging down to lows of $11,150. This decline was fleeting, as bulls have since erased virtually all of the losses that came about as a result of this movement. Despite the inflation news not having any positive short-term impacts on Bitcoin, the CEO of FinTech company Ripple believes that it will help direct heightened focus to crypto going forward – providing the entire market with a significant boost. Fed Decides to Let Interest Rates Run Hot The massive money printing that has been undertaken by the U.S. gover

Here’s The Reason Bitcoin May Not Break $20K Record For Another Year

Image
Bitcoin breaking through $10,000 immediately brought with it the return of talk of new all-time highs. But the longer the cryptocurrency stays this far below the stock-to-flow model, the more likely lengthening market cycles become more plausible. Here’s why a new all-time high may not happen in the crypto market for at least another year, according to one of the most accurate long term analysts in crypto. Halving Just Hype? Here’s Why Longer Bitcoin Cycles Mean No New ATH Until 2021 The crypto market is a strange beast. The regulation-light, wild west atmosphere is amplified by braggarts hiding behind pictures of animals and using pseudonymous names on social media. Bitcoin Investors “Fade the Fed” as BTC Pumps and Dumps Following Powell Speech

Image
Bitcoin saw some immense turbulence earlier today that came about due to news regarding the Federal Reserve’s intention to anchor interest rates near zero while they allow inflation to run high in the near-term to support the economy. This instantly led macro assets like Bitcoin, gold, and other safe havens to rally, with BTC’s price surging from lows of $11,200 to highs of $11,600. As soon as it tapped these highs, however, the cryptocurrency plunged back down to its recent lows, signaling that investors aren’t too enthusiastic about the short-term implications that high inflation will have on Bitcoin’s price action. This isn’t the first time that Bitcoin has posted a similar reaction to Federal Reserve-related news, leading one analyst to observe a trend of investors “fading the Fed.” Federal Reserve Boosts Case for Hard Assets Like Bitcoin with New Inflation Plans   During a speech from earlier today, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell announced that the central bank would
