Quick question on bitcoin vs fiat currency

Hey quick question for anyone who knows, does fiat have to be physically moved between banks and locations when you do things like online bank transfers and what not? And thats an advantage of bitcoin is that the thing that holds value within itself can be transmitted through the airwaves whereas fiat being sent over the web or something is just like placeholder? and the physical cash has to be moved around also?
