Telegram’s Blockchain Will Be Compatible With Ethereum: Source

Image
Telegram’s new blockchain project will be compatible with ethereum, according to a tech startup building tools for the network. The messaging company is expected to release the code to run a node on the Telegram Open Network (TON) on Sunday, allowing users to trial its project in advance of the project’s expected mainnet launch on Oct. 31. TON Labs, a tech startup helmed by investors in Telegram’s token sale, is building a number of tools for developers to help them build on the new network. One of these tools will be a Solidity compiler, which will allow decentralized applications built for ethereum to also run on TON, said TON Labs CEO and managing partner Alexander Filatov. Filatov told CoinDesk: “That was probably the most difficult thing we built. It will allow the advanced Ethereum community to pull everything they wrote for ethereum into TON.” The compiler has been in testing since July, he said. Pre-launch tests As mentioned, TON is expected to launch by Oct. 31. If

Blockchain Scalability: Current Challenges and Potential Solutions

Image
Solving the blockchain scalability challenge requires coming up with new consensus mechanisms that support different nonfinancial use cases. Blockchains and the related field of decentralized technologies represent a massive opportunity for humanity — not to mention the fact they appeared with almost perfect timing. Our largest institutions have become so powerful that they can take advantage of normal people without repercussions. Look no further than Facebook spying on its users and the surveillance state run by the Communist Party of China.  Fortunately, blockchain technology, cryptography and other distributed systems act as a counterbalance to this extreme consolidation of power. They are defensive technologies that empower the many against the few. Like BitTorrent disrupting the music industry, cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications are nearly impossible to shut down.   Challenges of blockchain scalability Fundamentally, a blockchain is a time-linked distributed l

Toshiba's Timeline for PCIe 4.0 SSDs

Image
Following up on several announcements from Flash Memory Summit earlier this month, Toshiba has shared more information about their plans for transitioning their NVMe SSDs to PCI Express 4.0. None of their PCIe Gen4 SSDs are particularly close to volume production, so rather than share preliminary performance numbers Toshiba is talking more about which product segments will be migrating first and what other design changes are coming at the same time as the interface speed boost. Toshiba’s perspective on final products and market readiness stands in contrast to the roadmaps from the SSD controller vendors that are racing to be the first ready with a full lineup of PCIe 4.0-capable controllers. Toshiba expects the server market to be the first segment to embrace PCIe 4.0. AMD has just launched their second-generation EPYC platform with a comparative wealth of PCIe 4.0 lanes, and companies like Broadcom and Microsemi are offering PCIe 4.0 switches and HBAs. The ecosystem is just about re

Human beings are fundamentally driven by incentives. If our money and culture incentivizes us to consume lots of resources, then that is what we will do. Bitcoin can change this, if people choose to play the game of life by new rules.

Bitcoin introduces incentives that encourage people to save, be frugal, and take personal responsibility over their finances. Our planet is suffocating under the weight of human civilization. We have to make our economy more eco-friendly. Bitcoin offers people an alternative path. This is what our government, businesses, bosses, friends, and family all need to understand, otherwise the next 100 years will not be pretty. submitted by /u/the420chronicler [link] [comments] from Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet https://ift.tt/2ZGeFXU

The customer also reportedly needs to hold either an account with Uzzo or Criptohub — Cielo’s network partners — in order to complete payment.  Cielo president Paulo Caffarelli remarked that its partner banks, including Bradesco, are backing the new crypto payments offering. Additionally, Cielo may begin supporting crypto payments that don’t require a PoS machine in Oc

Amazon grabs a piece of the Yankees network in a $3.47 billion deal

Image
“The new strategic partnership leverages the expertise and market reach of three highly successful companies – Yankee Global Enterprises, one of the world’s leading sports brands; Sinclair Broadcast Group, a diversified media company and leading provider of local sports and news; and Amazon, the innovative, multinational technology company,” stated the press release. The three companies will work together to enhance the position of the YES Network. Sinclair earlier this month purchased 21 regional sports networks from Disney, which it originally acquired when it bought the bulk of 21rst Century Fox’s entertainment assets back in March. The corporation was ordered by the Department of Justice’s antitrust division to sell the regional sports networks. The government’s argument was that if Disney didn’t divest its regional sports networks, it would lead to higher prices for cable sports due to lack of competition between Disney and Fox. Disney’s sale of YES Network, which focused on re

Stumped

I asked my girlfriend to ask me anything about bitcoin that she wanted to understand better and what she asked stumped me. She asked, if a small child wanted to open a lemonade stand and sell cups of lemonade, but was not allowed to use any technology (could basically only accept cash), how could they get paid bitcoin. Assuming they can’t create a wallet, etc. Similarly, if there was no power at all in a city for days (like after a hurricane) and people didn’t have their phones or access to the internet, how difficult would it be to use bitcoin? Isn’t cash much easier? I couldn’t think of any good answers to her questions. Report: No Bank Account Needed to Transfer China’s Upcoming CBDC

Image
The People’s Bank of China’s much-anticipated digital currency may allow fund transfers without needing a bank account, according to Binance Research. Binance Research, the research arm of the major crypto platform Binance, has reported that no bank account will be necessary to use China’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). Loose coupling and anonymity Binance Research shared its findings on Aug 28. According to the report, China’s CBDC will be transferable without a bank due to its loosely coupled design. As explained by the researchers, a loosely coupled design refers to a system of components that do not all depend on each other. The upshot is that users will reportedly be able to transfer the CBDC to one another without needing a bank account. The goals of this design are to provide a degree of user anonymity, promote a CBDC turnover rate equivalent to that of cash and to boost the circulation and internationalization of the renminbi. Smart contracts? The report also put

Report: Cryptojacking Campaigns Up by 29%, Ransomware Attacks Up 118%

McAfee Labs has observed increases of 29% in crypto jacking and 118% in ransomware attacks in the first quarter of 2019. Cybersecurity company McAfee Labs has released its August 2019 threat report, which notes an increase in cryptojacking campaigns and ransomware attacks in Q1 2019. Cryptojacking on the rise McAfee Labs posted their report on the company’s website on Aug. 28. According to the report, crypto jacking — installing and running a cryptocurrency miner without user permission — has been on the rise, with a 29% increase in crypto jacking campaigns in Q1 2019. Additionally, the company discovered new malware families for both Microsoft Windows and Apple users. One crypto jacking campaign they discovered was PsMiner — a crypto jacker for mining Monero ( XMR ) on Windows machines. McAfee Labs reportedly found that PsMiner used a PowerShell command to deploy its payload, which they further found is the crypto jacking norm for targeting Windows computers. Additionally, the

If you don't want to read, just go here and star this repo: https://github.com/lastmjs/enable-cryptocurrency-in-funding-yml Hey everyone, GitHub Sponsors just recently released, allowing GitHub repositories to show the official means of donating to them. They do this through a special file called `FUNDING.yml`. It supports official fields such as `patreon`, `open_collective`, and `tidelift`. I think it would be amazing if they added as officially supported fields `bitcoin` and `ethereum` (if you hate Ethereum, just be excited about Bitcoin :) Please star this repo and suggest improvements to the proposal. Crypto Lender Dharma Pivots to Stablecoin Savings Accounts

“Dharma is the easiest place to save your money from anywhere in the world.” That’s the new mission statement for decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Dharma as described by Brendan Forster, co-founder and COO of Dharma Labs, which built the Dharma protocol. On Thursday, Dharma Labs announced it would be relaunching its services in closed beta beginning with a new savings product. “We let people save in stablecoins,” Forster told CoinDesk. “What the new product enables is the instant depositing of stablecoins and the instant earning of interest on those stablecoins.” Having raised $7 million in February 2019, Dharma Labs launched its first product on the ethereum blockchain in April. At the time, Dharma was meant to facilitate peer-to-peer lending and borrowing of cryptocurrencies at fixed interest rates and for fixed durations. LG's 'proactive' AI predicts appliance problems before they happen

Image
Earlier this year during its CES press conference, LG made the case for using AI-linked devices to change our lives. While not everyone was sold on the vision, it has continued with the ThinQ-branded push to connect and control everything, and ahead of the IFA 2019 event, LG has announced that the Proactive Customer Care service mentioned during CES will be available across several European countries this year, before extending to North America and Asia in 2020. Exactly how “AI” is present in the service is unclear, but to start, appliances like front-loading washing machines and refrigerators will feed into the service, which generates tips on how to use them better, and can apparently inform owners of potential problems before they occur. One specific instance cited is monitoring any fluctuations in temperature in a freezer with alerts that go out if it shifts beyond three degrees. We’ll have to see it in action to know if the hints are worth anything, but the ThinQ AI experience
